Roots of A 2

15 02 2010

Unofficial Title: Return of Happy Akiyama.

A very short summary:

It’s July 5 years before the Liar Game. Akiyama is 22 years old and a senior at Teito University. Akiyama happens to be in Professor Okabe’s office when another professor comes in with a problem. Someone has broken into his locked desk drawer, and wants Okabe to help determine who did it. However, the prime suspect happens to be a classmate of Akiyama’s from high-school, Aratani.

I haven’t done the dictionary work yet, but it appears to be the story of how Akiyama learned that doubting others is not bad.

Random News Post

9 10 2009

Just short random bits of scanlation/fandom news:

1. In case you missed it: Roots of A has been turned into a scanlation. Also, if you’re interested in the rest of the short stories, there are translations of those as well.

2. In case you’re wondering what’s up with Null and the release delays: Their RAW scanner disappeared for a bit, and since their policy is to work with only tankobon raws and not magazine raws (the quality of the tankos is MUCH higher than the quality for magazines). When I contacted  to offer to scan, I got a response that the scanner was back.

3. If you’re looking for another site that does LG Analysis: Mangakissa is another site that has a few up. The author does said analysis from a completely different angle than what’s done here, and we don’t quite see eye-to-eye on a few things, but it’s certainly something the analysis hungry among you might want to check out. Especially those who think more mathematically and/or want to avoid spoilers for untranslated rounds.

P.S. Watch for an analysis post sometime this weekend. =D

Roots of A translation.

6 07 2009

Yeah. That’s right. It’s a translation, although it hasn’t been checked or proofread or anything.

The only things I ask is a) that you ask me before reposting or using it in a scanlation, b) you give me a link, and c) you give credit.

Roots of Akiyama?

23 03 2009

What of Akiyama’s original character, before he lost his mother and went on to take down the Shuuei Group?

What’s always been a part of Akiyama’s character (both in Roots of A and Liar Game)? What has he gained in the 5 years between Roots of A and Liar Game? What has he lost?

Roots of A: raws + summary

21 03 2009

This is the first raw I’ve scanned it, and well, I cropped it and saved them as JPG and that’s all. So they’re kind of crappy. But there you have it, Roots of A.

What follows is not a direct translation, but more of a synopsis.  Beware. It is long. But hopefully, it will help you follow with the manga.

Roots of A

19 03 2009

Not sure if anyone else has heard of it, so here it is:

Roots of A is essentially a manga short featuring Akiyama during his senior year of college. In it, Akiyama and four of his classmates are taking a criminal psychology course and given an assignment where they must construct a profile of a person based on a letter they sent. This outcome of the assignment, plus what the professor says afterwards, is what prompts Akiyama to enter grad-school and continue to study psychology.

It’s not what I expected from a story called, “The Roots of A.” I was thinking that it might give away the whole battle between Akiyama and the Shuuei group. Not so. I also thought it would be longer. Also not so. It’s just a one shot, and I’d like to scan it in for some lovely scanlators to get a hold of. Maybe? Please? Because I’m not sure it’s worth the price for the entire short story collection, if all you want is the Akiyama story.

Anyway, I’m working on translating it right now (it’s complex o.O), and will probably post some analysis later.

But yay for  the chance to see pre-tragedy Akiyama.

The files are completely untranslated, and the quality of the scan isn’t great, but if you’re curious go ahead.  Synopsis post coming when I get done figuring how what the heck is going on. XD
